The economy is tough and there isn’t money in the budget for fireworks at Sugarhouse Park this year to celebrate the 4th of July. This tradition has been going for 20 years, it is one of the main ways our community celebrates our country’s independence… It shouldn’t stop now!
You can help save this tradition. Here are a few things you can do:
1) Make a donation or have your company sponsor the event. Go to www.sugarhousefireworks.com for info.
2) On May 18th eat at any Salt Lake area Noodles & Company and 25% will go to save the fireworks.
3) On May 25th shop at Whole Foods Market in Sugarhouse and 5% will go to save the fireworks.
4) Spread the word! Follow on Twitter, become a fan on Facebook, and repost on your own wall!
It will be sad if Salt Lake can’t pull together to have a great fireworks show at Sugarhouse park to celebrate America. Let’s do what we can to help!

The following letter was sent to the Salt Lake Tribune by a worried reader:
In this time of moral and financial crisis, Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker is going to build a stage in Pioneer Park and invite the rock group the New Pornographers perform (“Twilight to bring booze, big acts to Salt Lake City’s Pioneer Park — will it stay?” Tribune , April 30). Please tell me this is a final April Fool’s joke.
Considering Becker’s agenda of “fairness,” to whom is even the name “New Pornographers” being fair to? Is it fair to the victims of the 6,500 registered sex offenders in Utah? Why does Becker want to promote thoughts about pornography, which contributes to crimes against women and children? Whose side is he on?
The Twilight Concerts also announced that priority is to bring in alcohol for the concert.
My father was killed by a drunken driver. Is Becker going to provide rides for those who get drunk from the alcohol he brings in for a city event?
To be fair to the majority of citizens, how about some decent, respectful entertainment for them? I asked my neighbors in the Avenues what they thought of bringing the New Pornographers and they were equally disturbed.
Bethany Brinton
Salt Lake City
—–
This is the funniest letter I have ever read, and I can’t believe this is what poor Bethany chooses to get worked up about. The New Pornographers are a Canadian band, and their name alone will not contribute to sex offenses when they visit Salt Lake. Alcohol is still legal in Utah for people over 21, and a rock concert of all places seems like a pretty appropriate place for it…
Bethany and her prudish Avenues friends will be staying home on July 29th, but if you want to go to the New Pornographers concert and have a beer, check out the event details here!

Welcome to the InSaltLake.com blog!
We are happy to launch InSaltLake.com and so far it has been received well. We have received a lot of support on our Facebook page and Twitter feed. If you havent joined us there please do so, we will be using these pages to keep everyone informed on what is happening around Salt Lake.
We are all about supporting the local community. We are always looking to partner with local businesses and events so if you have a local company or event and would like to discuss these possibilities please contact us.
Why InSaltLake.com and why now?
There are websites that offer classifieds in Salt Lake, however these are a lot less personal and may not be locally owned and operated *cough* Craigslist *cough*. These sites might reach more people, but try to connect with others or get help with your posting and see what happens! That is why, for the time being, we would still encourage people to list their classifieds there AND here on InSaltLake.com.
We are also trying to build the best directory of local Salt Lake City businesses anywhere. When you are looking for a business, please think of InSaltLake.com as a place to help! The more we can localize and support others in our community the better! In the future we hope to do a lot more spotlights on local people, businesses, and events, and really turn InSaltLake.com into a community. Please sign up now and help us do this!
As for why now…There is no time like the present!!
Thank you for your support!
